THE ARTS

Throughout the ages artists such as musicians, writers, and painters have suffered while creating their work. One well-known painter, Vincent Van Gogh who created “The Starry Night” only sold one painting in his career. Only ten percent of art majors work primarily as artists according to the Atlantic. Some become teachers or work as an artist part-time. However, they are still following their dream. Ysamin Keshtka says “...there is no guarantee of success upon completion of this degree. The most rewarding aspect of this program is being able to do something I love and having the opportunity to take it as far as possible” (Interview with Fine Arts Graduate Student). As a college student studying at the Pratt Institute in NY, with a studio art major, she realized the risk she was taking. When she decided to become an art major she was willing to chance it because that was her dream. Musicians and artists have to sacrifice so much time and effort to achieve their goals. In doing so they give the world a part of themselves that no one else could create.
I love the arts with every fiber of my being. So it’s hard to put into words why the arts and artists are so inspirational. That is one of the purposes of the arts; communication. The arts communicate what a person’s words cannot always convey. The definition of communication is the means of connection between people or places, in particular (dictionary.com). The arts convey the deepest most pure form of passion and emotion. New ideas are not always accepted or welcomed, but the amazing thing about art is whether it's music, painting, a dance, or a picture; the ideas are limitless. I love people who follow their calling to become artists because there are so many ways to interpret art; there is no “wrong way”. For the person to put themselves out there and work so hard is just amazing to me.
